Music video‬ history

A music video is something like a very short film that the music has been taken and put into a music video such as Michael Jackson made a video called black or white and it was 14 minutes long and it is set outside, inside, in a studio and on location. They use different types of techniques to make the music videos; they also use imagery to help make music videos different from each other by adding or taking images away from the background and having different images so that they are all different in each music video. They are produced for promotional reasons to help promote the band/ artist. The music videos of now are more primary so that they get the attention of the target audiences, which can be anyone and everyone for the music videos now. They are all very different than what they used to be and they are more to the beat now but have more graphic videos than the ones before now.

Although music videos started of as someone just stood in front of an audience and playing a instrument and the background having just one image such as a flower and then as the time went on they got a-bit better by having moving backgrounds and they had more people in the music video and the backgrounds started to move and getting more to be in time with the song.

In the 80’s MTV started to play music videos on the TV so that others could watch them and rate the videos and they helped the band/ artist become bigger and it let people hear more of their music and to watch the video and then MTV became bigger and then it became more of a hit within the younger audience and it was the most talked about TV show of the time and now it is one of the hit music video channel along with all the new ones such as VIVA, TMF and many more.

In the 1980s music videos were described to be the works of various terms including “ well drawn and put together music songs and videos. And they were branded short movies such as Michael Jackson black or white as it was 14 minutes long.

They had a wide range of different camera, sound, picture techniques, including they used stop monition and animation and comic book effect to make them different from each other so that people would look and then people would remember and look at it differently. Music videos such as the gorillaz music video “DARE‬” here is the link to the video as it has animation and real life man head in it . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uAOR6ib95kQ

Some of many music videos didn’t have anything fancy such as moving backgrounds and they only sometimes had a single image or their song lyrics or just a black curtain that they stood and sang in front off.

The purpose of a music video is to grab the audience eyes and to get them to listen to the music and watch the music video to help promote the band/ artist. To help them become bigger and better and create more ideas to help make more, better, interesting music videos to show others what they have done so that they have been heard off and seen and to see if they can beat the other bands/ artists.

Purpose means to have something and to create something new and to have a meaning in something such as a music video and the music videos belongs to the band/ artist so that it has a meaning to the band/ artist and to the followers of the band/ artist who watch the music videos.

the rolling stones Satisfaction music video  the director for this music video was Andrew Loog Oldham  writers of the song were Jagger/ Richards the purpose of the music video was to get the attention of the target audience for them which was mostly girls and women. it shows them standing on a stage at a gig getting ready to start and then they start playing and singing with the band playing and the audience start dancing and screaming. the band play and the cameras go in and out doing lots of simple camera angles on the main singer and on the bass and guitar and drums players so that the whole band is on/ in the music video so that the whole band and the audience feel involved and in their place as part of history and in a bands music video.  the research that they did was to find the target audience for them and get them involved in the music video and they spoke to music magazines and to the papers and so that people have heard of them and reconsizise them when they are on anything for example :-)

they can be on the TV being interviewed, in magazines and etc.

Animation artist Max Fleischer introduced a series of sing-along short cartoons called Screen Songs, which invited audiences to sing along to popular songs by “following the bouncing ball”, which is similar to a modern karaoke machine. The sing along concept is still used today, especially with younger audiences such as High School Musical. Early 1930s cartoons featured popular musicians performing their hit songs on-camera in live-action segments during the cartoons. The early animated films by Walt Disney, such as the Silly Symphonies shorts and especially Fantasia, which featured several interpretations of classical pieces, were built around music. The Warner Brothers cartoons, even today billed as Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies, were initially fashioned around specific songs from upcoming Warner Brothers musical films. Warner Brothers also produced the cartoon “Three Pigs in a Polka”, set to Johannes BrahmsHungarian Dances. This film actually included many elements to the Walt Disney version of the Three Little Pigs, such as the pigs playing a violin and a piccolo. Live action musical shorts, featuring such popular performers as Cab Calloway, were also distributed to theaters.
